Mt. Shasta Cottage Getaway Renovation
We recently had the opportunity to collaborate with Sandy Bade, of Red Door Design to remodel this chalet-style cottage retreat in Mt. Shasta. This kitchen remodel combines simplicity, function, and refined detail. The countertops and backsplash feature Ambria Oakleigh Polished Quartz, creating a clean, seamless surface that reflects natural light beautifully. A Premium Black Brushed Granite Slab adds striking contrast and depth, serving as a durable accent that grounds the bright cabinetry and enhances the kitchen’s modern aesthetic.
The converted ensuite master bathroom blends natural warmth with modern functionality through a mix of textures and high-quality finishes. The same quartz countertops from the kitchen provide a sleek, durable surface that contrasts beautifully with the DalTile Saddlebrook Farmhouse accent wall, adding depth and rustic character to the shower. The shower floor features Crossville Nest Joyous Oak and Olive Blend tile with a seamless drain, combining form and function for a timeless look. A lighted niche enhances both style and usability, while Arizona Tile Cove Pebble ties the design together across the walls and floors with organic tones that complement the overall aesthetic.
A newly added bathroom combines clean lines with bold material contrasts for a refined, modern look. The Ragno Look Nero shower tile brings warmth and depth through its handcrafted texture and rich, reflective finish. These materials create a striking balance between light and dark elements, giving the space a contemporary feel that remains inviting and timeless.
This new mudroom combines style with practicality, designed to stand up to daily use while maintaining a clean, modern look. After a long day skiing on Mt. Shasta, it’s the perfect spot to rinse off boots, gear, or even the family dog before settling in by the fire. The Arizona Tile Reflexion Night tiles bring a sleek, durable surface that handles moisture with ease, while the Arizona Tile Shibusa Tortora Basketweave Mosaic adds texture and warmth underfoot. Functional yet elevated, this space makes coming home from mountain adventures both effortless and inviting.
A Note from the Designer
I recently had the pleasure of working on a charming Chalet-style cottage in Mt. Shasta, a project that proved to be an absolute delight. This mountain getaway held a special sentimental value for the family, as it was located on the same street where my clients' parents exchanged vows, and just three houses away from their grandparents' residence, which their grandfather built. We undertook a comprehensive renovation of the interior and exterior of this Rock cottage. The project involved enclosing the back porch, adding a new full bath, and incorporating a mudroom with a dog wash station. Furthermore, all new windows and exterior doors were installed. We also transformed a bedroom into a primary suite with an ensuite and relocated the laundry area. These clients have been one of my most loyal and long-standing clients, with whom I have had the privilege of working on six homes, including properties in Redding, Yountville, Lake Almanor, and Mt. Shasta. While they are always enthusiastic about providing photos, they prefer to maintain their privacy. I hope that this project will not be our last collaboration!
